High “Hoops”…the Sequel.
Side-court Sister: Cara Maia Tanlimco
In our one-on-one with b-ball idol and MILO Best athlete Chris Tiu, we get in on his game!
KZ: You were part of MILO Best. Can you describe the experience? (FULL VERSION)
Chris: “I was 7 years old and I joined with my cousin Ryan. That was in PSA in Makati. We did the basic stuff: dribbling, shooting, and dribbling with your eyes closed. And at that point, you feel like, ‘What am I doing? Is it really going to be useful for me?’ Sometimes you just hesitate and you’re kinda lazy. My mom sometimes had to drag me out of bed to play. But now, I’m very appreciative and I’m very thankful for that opportunity. I’m very fortunate [because it’s] something [that] really built the foundation.
KZ: What’s the best advice you ever got from a coach or a fellow player that you follow?
Chris: “FOCUS ON THE PRESENT, on what you’re doing currently and on the court. Sometimes you make a turnover, a mistake, or you miss a shot. You don’t have to think about it too much. It’s not very constructive for you. And preparation is really key. You can’t just expect to not prepare well, show up in a game, and score 40 points.”
Did You Know? Christ Tiu would take on Winnie the Pooh if he were to go one-on-one with a ’toon character. He thinks it won’t take much to beat this tubby fluffball—with all that running and jumping!
