You knew it was coming, and here it is: Pokémon Platinum, the third game in the fourth-gen Poké-salvo that began with Diamond and Pearl. Announced in CoroCoro magazine earlier, this new game is coming to Japan in “Autumn 2008″, and we’ll probably see an English release next year. Check out the site here (it’s in Japanese, of course) for some screenies of Giratina’s origin form in action.
Now that Platinum (one of the most valuable elements in the planet) is outta the way…what will they name the Pokémon games next?
Back in the June 2007 issue, we asked the guys of Bamboo who their favorite superhero was. Everyone answered “Batman” (yeah!) — except for Vic, who stuck to his guns and answered, “Remo Williams!” Now, nearly one year after that interview (with Iron Man out and Bamboo back in the studio recording their newest album), we asked them again:
“Who’s your favorite superhero?”

With thirty years, six movies, and too-many-to-count comics, games, toys…how much more Star Wars can you get? For the fans, obviously, not enough.
The new Star Wars movie is coming out this August…and guess what, it’s animated! It has the look of the old Clone Wars ’toon series on Cartoon Network (with a 3D touch, of course), mixed with all the full-scale battles we’ve seen in the movies. (I’m looking forward to the cliffside battle sequence.)

Have you guys checked out this new comic book? It’s called Private Iris, and it’s a new series from Pinoy comics creators Jamie Bautista and Arnold Arre (old-time K-Zone fans might remember our interview with Arnold…plus he co-wrote the K-Zone comics series The Heroic Wildlife Society with R. Magnusson).
Private Iris is about an ultra-smart girl called Iris Able who sets out to solve cases around town. Well, she actually doesn’t want to…but her friend Danton Cord, the most popular kid in class, manages to convince her to help out. So he’s got the strong-arm charm, while she’s got the sarcastic smarts, and together they’re out to form the next great detective team-up.
Hit the jump for an exclusive three-page preview of Private Iris #1…plus an interview with creator Jamie Bautista!

So the K-Zone team has been playing the heck out of Mario Kart Wii over the past week. We’re still trying to figure out how to win with the Wii Wheel (whoever uses the nunchuck control usually ends up winning over the guy who uses the wheel). On Tuesday, Cara even brought two extra controllers so we could have a four-player race-fest. Here’s some things we found out about the team that only the racing stress of Mario Kart can bring out.
Ivan: He can roar like King Koopa! (Er…Bowser.)
Cara: She’s super-competitive…and even shouts at the TV.
Myra: Loves the Bullet Bill power-up. Hey, who doesn’t?
Marc: A round of Mario Kart can cure any headache.
Maggie: Yelps and shouts when she falls off the track.
Me: Well, what can I say? I’m the losing-est. ![]()
If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the first official poster of High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Great-looking shot, there…click the pic for a closer look.
As we speak, they’re currently shooting scenes for the movie in Utah. The main stars — Zac, Vanessa, Ashley, Corbin, and Monique — were at a press conference in Utah last May 2 to announce the start of filming. Here’s one official shot from the presser, thanks to the folks at Walt Disney Motion Pictures. (Corbin really rocks those hats.)

Ever wanted your own Pokédex? You might have seen the Talking Pokédex toy in stores already, but we’ve heard that the all-new Diamond/Pearl Talking Pokédex will come to Philippine toy shelves this August. This handheld encyclopedia is packed with info on all the Sinnoh Pokémon, with a female voice reading out all the stats you gotta know. It even comes with five games for you to try. Pokémon toy collectors — keep an eye out!
If you’re currently hooked on Digimon in Hero TV, here’s good news to perk you up from your back-to-school blues. The show’s second season, Digimon Adventure 2, will go into the third Digimon season, Digimon Tamers, starting June 23 (that’s a Monday) at 4:00pm.
Tamers signalled a big change in the Digimon anime series. Set in a world that’s a lot like ours, where people play and watch the Digimon anime, video games, and card games, no one believes that Digimon are real…until, of course, three kids suddenly receive real Digimon. Eeep!
Want more back-to-school stuff from Hero? They also have the premiere of Sasami, a mahou shoujo adventure series about — what else? — a magical girl named Sasami. This will premiere on June 14, weekends at 4:00pm. Plus, they’ll be airing reruns of Mirmo de Pon, Akazukin Cha Cha, Inspector Fabre, and more. Huzzah!

Just got off the long-distance phone with Krystal Meyers, a Christian rock singer from Tennessee, U.S. who’s ready to take over the airwaves. Among other things, we talked about her recent Asian tour, her current faves (she even gave me a list of Christian rock bands to listen to), and how her faith shaped her music. In this little snippet from our interview, she talks about a Bible verse that inspired her (Romans 12:2) and how it formed the bedrock of who she is right now.
Take a listen!

Last Saturday, a couple of K-Zoners and I went to the Nickelodeon Weekend Carnival at the Fort Open Field. Besides the heat, the crowd was really overwhelming. A lot of kids (and their parents) gave their whole Saturday for the event; they waited in long lines just to give each of Nick’s activities a go. Danny Phantom’s Fright Flight was the crowd favorite–even I stayed in line for 2 hours just so our guests of honor could reach the skies by jumping on the trampoline. Here’s a quick vid I took when we were waiting for our turn:
and so…since the sky already turned dark when we reached the front, I barely got a clear (and exact) picture:
